This weekend, Gourmet Gab went to Italy.
Okay…well…maybe not literally, but I did go to Nick’s Italian Restaurant in Paradise Valley, Arizona for some delicious pasta. I ordered the Baked Ziti, which was so good I would not have been surprised if someone told me it was FedEx-ed from Rome. Traditionally, this dish is made by cooking ziti noodles until al dente (tender, but still slightly chewy), tossing the noodles with marina sauce and various cheeses, and then placing the dish into the oven for a few minutes to melt even more luscious cheese on top.
Nick’s does it just that way, and to jazz it up a bit, I asked if the chef could add some veggies (broccoli, carrot, mushroom, and zucchini) into the mix…è stato delizioso! Translation: IT WAS DELICIOUS! The noodles were cooked impeccably, the sauce was heavenly, the veggies were fresh, and the cheese on top was crisp, but gooey. For appetizers, I recommend the Grilled Shrimp…it was divine. I also had a taste of the Seafood Ravioli filled with fresh fish, shrimp, and crabmeat–another winner.
If you are looking for top notch Italian dining with a fabulous ambience, take a trip to one of Nick’s four locations around the valley. One thing is for sure, you do not need a plane ticket to Italy to enjoy scrumptious pasta!
