A Taste of Tempe

Gourmet Gab and Friends + Two evenings exploring Downtown Tempe = Two fabulous food finds!

One Friday evening it was my friend’s 19th Birthday, which called for celebration at Sushi 101 for their self-proclaimed “Best Sushi” at the “Best Price in Town!” Well, they are right. I ordered Crunch Lollipop Roll, crab meat and avocado, deep-fried and served with a sweet eel sauce, which was by-far the most incredible unique roll I have ever tasted. Arranged like 6 little lollipops, the presentation was adorable. Happy Hour every night of the week means affordability for everyone, especially college students!

Mill Avenue is a hot spot in Tempe, especially for ASU students. Lined with everything from restaurants and bars to shopping and entertainment, it is a hopping place. Last weekend, my friends and I tried out this quaint little ice cream sandwich shop called Cookiez On Mill. With 5+ fresh-baked cookies to choose from (the owner’s special recipes) and 10+ ice cream or sorbet flavors to pair them with, the options are endless. I went with the classic chocolate chip/french vanilla combo and it was unbelievable. Melt in your mouth, soft cookies and rich, cold ice cream…it does not get any better than that! The best part – student discounts and they’re open until 2 am on Fri/Sat!

Whether you live in Arizona or are vacationing here, check out the Mill Avenue District in Downtown Tempe for great eats and a fabulous atmosphere! Have a favorite place there already? Let Gourmet Gab know so she can check it out, too!

Love food. Love self. Love life.
